Candy Tithe
Each year on All Saints Sunday, we celebrate the end of our stewardship focus, and rejoice in the faithfulness of this community.
A few years ago, some children who had heard about the tithe decided to express their faith as well, and they brought 10% of the candy they had collected by Trick or Treating on Halloween, and gave it to the church.
The Candy Tithe has since become a tradition at St. Timothy's. The candy is directed to our friends at Santa Maria Urban Ministry, where it is enjoyed by the children in their programs.
When the children count and sort out their candy with their parents, they learn about bringing God the first, best fruits, because the tithe doesn't just come out of the least-favorite candy pile.
The children's candy is poured out on the altar, so they can see how their faithfulness, combined with the faithfulness of the other children, results in abundance.
We invite all parents and children to participate in the candy tithe at the 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 5:00 p.m. services on Sunday, November 6.
