She graduated from Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia in 1981 with degrees in Music/ Voice Performance and English. Maly attended seminary at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley and was ordained to the priesthood in 1997. She is married to Allan Hughes and between them they have five children, three girls and two boys, all grown and living on their own.

As Priest Executive, Maly is responsible for the day-to-day things that go on around the parish. She makes sure the office runs smoothly, supervises the staff, manages liturgical details (things that have to do with worship), and deals with any other situations that may arise.
